SECOND OPINIONS
ON-LINE Benemax Health Plans do not just pay claims; they also do everything
possible to keep our members healthy and to provide them with access
to the very best healthcare in the world, whenever…and wherever…they
need it. As part of that commitment, we have given our members, through
their local physicians, the ability to consult with renowned Harvard
Medical School faculty specialists on staff at Brigham and Women's
Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation
Hospital and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, all leading Harvard
Medical School teaching affiliates. This online service is administrated through Partners HealthCare
System, the healthcare system created by Brigham and Women's Hospital
and Massachusetts General Hospital. Each Benemax plan member is entitled at no cost to one specialty
consultation every 12 months. To take advantage of this second opinion
program, a member simply clicks on the Partners' logo on the “My
Company” page in Virtual Benefit Manager. This takes the member to a customized Partners/Benemax web page
where the member can quickly register for the program and learn
how to coordinate the specialty consultation process with his/her
local physician. Once member and doctor have submitted all necessary
information to Partners, they will ordinarily receive the second
opinion in about five business days. A study has shown that in 5% of all cases submitted for review
under this Partners program, the original diagnosis was reversed
and that in 90% of all cases reviewed, Partners recommended a modification
of the original treatment plan. This is a real win-win benefit. By making it easier for a patient
to obtain a qualified second opinion, Benemax is reducing the volume
of unnecessary, inappropriate or ineffective treatments, which in
turn reduces hard dollar claims cost. At the same time,
Benemax is helping patients to a quicker and more complete recovery,
reducing lost time and increasing productivity. |
